CLARK COUNTY, HENDERSON JUSTICE COURT

Did you receive a traffic ticket in Henderson for failing to use carpool lane accordingly (NRS 484B.323) while driving on Interstate 215? Did you fail to yield right of way to traffic turning left (NRS 484B.253) while driving on St. Rose Parkway? Did you fail to properly restrain a child in a child restraint system (NRS 484B.157) when leaving Cowabunga Bay? These traffic tickets may be handled by the Henderson Justice Court. You can check the top and bottom of your traffic violation and it should say the issuing party (Sheriff, Highway Patrol, Metro) and the county and court where the ticket will be handled.  It is important to always check the deadline for appearance, which is typically shown on the bottom of citations. Failure to appear on or resolve before that date can result in a warrant. Some of the more common tickets we see for the Henderson Justice Court are violations like Speeding, Failure to Yield, Failing to Observe Traffic Control Device and Improper Lane Overtake. These types of violations can often be negotiated with the Henderson Justice Court via the District Attorney’s office. Some Courts and/or District Attorney’s may have policies in place that disallow such a negotiation, while others may actively welcome it.

Additionally, since the position of District Attorney is generally a 4yr term, the expiration of their term and hiring of a new District Attorney for Clark County may also bring with it a change to the policies on how the traffic negotiations are handled. This might result in a change to administrative assessments, and the enactment or discontinuance of negotiations in general.

Justice Courts

Each of Nevada’s counties and its independent city are divided into one or more townships, and each township has a justice court.
